Week Three

1.
Hong: "It is said that [Jesse's Army] have a very special way of torturing prisoners. They use a tournevis.(screwdriver)... They place it into the ear and drive it through the brain with a carpenter's hammer." (Vea, 84)
Jesse: "They won't shot you. You can take my word for it." (83)
"There were bullet holes in [Hong's] body... In Hong's left ear there was a rectangular slot; an empty mineshaft that plunged downward through soft cartilage into the auditory canal, and from there it sliced and severed the optic nerve and pons..."(85)

2.
This quotes are significant because it shows that things are not what it seems. Jesse thought that Hong wouldn't be tortured by his Army and Jesse evens told Hong that he would be killed. But towards the end of the chapter Jesse finds out that Hong was killed and tortured. This is meaningful because it show that you never know someone or a group of people well and that things are not always what it seems.

3.
Q1: In the end of page 85, the Frenchwoman ask Jesse if he knew Hong, why do you think Jesse said he didn't knew Hong?
Q2: Who is the Frenchlady that ask questions? (PG. 85)

Week Two

1. "Even if you speak the truth, they [uuges and jury] won't hear it if it has an accent or comes from thick, black lips. They certainly won't hear it if it's filled with sidewalk jargon and street slang." (Vea, 72)

2. This passage is significant because it shows that the judge and jury won't listen to people who aren't their color or don't at like they do. So Jesse and Eddy try to make Calvin understand how to act towards them, this includes no cussing and bad actions. It meaningful becuase to Jesse and Eddy it doesn't matter the race what matters is to win the trail.

3. 1. On page 55 last paragraph did Bernard hanged limp?
     2. What is it important for Jesse to win in court?

2. This passage is significant because it shows the sister were being nice to her sister but it also shows how well they knew their sister because they use almost the same words as Peresephone said. It meaningful  because this shows a good relationship the sisters had with each other.

3. Why do you think the sister uses the exact same words as Peresephone in chapter 1?
Do you think the sister were there togther during the good times and bad times?
